Physical Education and Sport

Physical Education (PE) develops pupils’ knowledge, skills and understanding in order for them to increase their competence and confidence in a range of physical activities. In PE at FCJ, we learn and develop key skills through units including dance, invasion games, gymnastics and athletics. Our children enjoy learning a range of different sports and activities that develop these key skills and their physical literacy.

Whilst in PE lessons, children will be thinking, selecting, applying skills as well as promoting attitudes towards a healthy lifestyle. We enable children to make informed choices about physical activity throughout their lives.

Each week, all classes spend at least two hours on Physical Education, which is taught in mixed- gender groups. Pupils are taught that both competitive spirit and fair sportsmanship are key to successful sporting activities.

We encourage our pupils, particularly at Key Stage 2, to take part in our many sporting after-school clubs and to represent the school in our sports teams. The school participates in the inter-schools Jersey leagues for football and netball. It also competes with other schools in athletics, cross-country, Kwik Cricket and Gaelic Football.
